Beautiful Christiane Schaumburg-Müller in a 50s vintage dress |
English
In the 50s one of the most
sold bras had pointed cups. The narrow waist together with stilettos and
pointed breasts, put women out as sexual objects. Still in the 50s a slim,
young body became the ideal for teenagegirls. About 1960 the young and the
mature became more alike. The english Mary Quant presented the miniscirt in
1965. The dresses was loose, with focus on the legs instead of the curves of
the body. The new body ideal was fragile and littlegirl like. Nor hips, waist
or breasts was emphasized. It was most likely a protest against women being
looked at as a sex object. A lot of woman went on health damaging and very
dangerous diets, ’cause they wanted to look like the model Twiggy. She signaled
anything but sexual attraction, and was usefull in young girls manufacturing of
themselve. Most women used shaping underwear until the 1970s.
